All summer 2020 shows were cancelled or postponed due to the global covid-19 pandemic.

In December, Camilla performed, with Niwel Tsumbu, (with a guest spot from Max Vearncombe), two shows which were part-funded by the Irish Government’s ‘Live Performance Support Scheme’. The first at Levis Corner House in Ballydehob, West Cork, as part of their ‘Alive in The Cracks’ series,  is available here. The second was recorded and filmed at De Barra’s in Clonakilty, West Cork and can be seen here.

Both gigs featured songs from Mamasongue along with some new Camilla/Niwel collaborations.

A powerful and captivating journey.

I am delighted to have witnessed the birth of Cammilla Grieshels 'Mamasongue' which captivated an entranced sold out audience at Skibbereen Town Hall. Backed by an exceptional live band Camilla presents her breadth of musical innovation in a journey through music, forging a unique blend of Salsa and Rumba, primal African rhythms, Soulful Blues and effecting ballads, all woven together with Camilla's singularly exceptional voice and powerful performance. 'Mamasongue' is a remarkable, inspiring and uplifting show.

Authentic magic

Mamasongue is a journey through the heart of Woman. Camilla weaves a story, her story, but a story that I recognised as my own also.. Her authentic magic , pure Duende spirit shines from the moment she steps onstage. The performance was rich and seamless. Supported by incredible skilled musicians, Camilla's voice soared, moving and stirring.. The beautiful synergy between the performers was a joy to hear and see. Thank you for this most wonderful offering into the world.

Mamasongue - Blew me away

One of the most captivating shows I've seen in a very long time, from the very minute Camilla comes on stage she draws you in. There's so much depth to this show, while I was glued to it, I still feel I didn't absorb it all, I'd go and see it again tomorrow if I could. I'll be telling all my friends and family to miss this show is a tragedy.

Mamasongue is a celebration of songs from distant lands, brought to the stage by Camilla Griehsel, one of Ireland’s most versatile and passionate singers. Camilla sings songs from around the world that transcend the constraints of culture, time and place to show that, through performance, a song’s true meaning can be deeply felt, regardless of its language.

“I am drawn to the universal emotions in performance,” says Camilla. “As we travel from culture to culture, we’ll find parallels in the way music resolves into nurture, love and joy from keening laments to the comfort of a lullaby. From a mother’s tongue comes the primordial language of song beyond words.”

During the show, Camilla sings of love, loss and longing, passion, desire and joy. She reaches out and reminds us of the undeniable connection between us all.

Camilla Griehsel, born in Sweden, has over thirty years professional experience from pop recording artist to avant-garde opera, from traditional jazz to South American folk. She is dedicated to bringing people together and connecting hearts through the power and universality of song.

For Mamasongue, Camilla has been joined onstage by some world-class musicians, including pianist and West Cork based collaborator Maurice Seezer, Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu, Donegal percussionist Éamonn Cagney, South African bassist Concord Nkabinde, pianist and arranger Cormac McCarthy, and Diego Joaquin Ramirez and Graham Hopkins on drums.
